Astrae Oratio combat, explained
Last updated: · By Astral Grimoire Desk
Astrae Oratio uses 1v1 duels fought by a 3-character party. You bring three characters but fight one-on-one, defeating multiple enemies in succession. Combat mixes turn-based AP skills with real-time counters and character switching, a depletable gauge that stuns enemies, and a "Declaration of Dominion" move to seize initiative. The director describes it as roughly 70% strategy, 30% action.
How does 1v1 combat with a 3-character party work?
Although you field a party of three, each fight is a duel: one of your characters against one enemy at a time, with multiple enemies fought in succession. You can switch characters mid-fight, which — together with the real-time counter timing — is where the fighting-game influence shows. The developers have cited Street Fighter, Tekken and Persona as inspirations.

What is Declaration of Dominion?
"Declaration of Dominion" — also translated as "Territory Declaration" — is a signature move in which a character calls their own name to seize the initiative in a duel. The conditions under which it can be used vary from character to character, which the developers say is central to the game's strategy layer. It ties into the broader "Dominion" setting of the story.
Is there a tier list yet?
Any Astrae Oratio tier list published today is premature. The only public hands-on builds are a TGS demo and a five-day closed beta with 18 reported characters of a launch roster of around 30 or more. Balance will change before the 2027 launch, most characters have not been publicly playable, and per-character Dominion conditions are only partially known. We will not publish rankings until launch builds exist.
